If I don't wear retainer for 7 days, will teeth go crooked?

During the past 6 months, I had my braces removed and began wearing a retainer. I started wearing my retainer around February 17th. However, a little over a week ago, my retainer cracked around the area that fits over the upper left molar (I think that's the tooth). I went to the orthodontist's office today, and he said that he'd have to send the retainer to the lab company for them to repair it; according to the orthodontist, this will take 7 days. The retainer won't be repaired and ready to pick up until next Wednesday (June 13th).

My question is: can my teeth become crooked during the next week? The orthodontist doesn't think so, but I want to be sure.

Dental professionals -- what are your opinions?

not a dental professional but after i got my braces off, i didnt wear my retainer very much like maybe stick it in every 3 weeks or so and the orthodontist was like wow u have been wearing your retainer a lot huh? and now i never wear it because i put it into my backpack and it got bent. i prolly havent worn it for 6 months and my teeth are only a little crooked so a week wont matter. dont worry about it. :)
Reply:I doubt that they will go crooked in just a week. Just make sure you wear the retainer once you get it. I stopped wearing mine before I was suppose to, and one of my teeth moved, but not as bad as before, and it took longer then a week.
Reply:its depends of ur teeth! but u better get ur retainer as fast as u can!
Reply:Hi, I am a d. professional and I have to tell you that your teeth can move in that time. Everyone is different so it is not a given, but it is a probability
Reply:I'm not a professional but I had braces for six years. My bottom teeth always seemed to move even if I took my retainers out for just a day or two. My top teeth, however, always stayed in place and I eventually ditched my top retainer completely. Years later I still had to wear a retainer on my bottom teeth to keep them from shifting, so I ended up having to get a permanent retainer (which I highly recommend by the way. not painful, can't see it, easy.) Anyway, even if your teeth do move, like mine often did, putting the retainer back in your mouth when you get it back will put them right back into place. It will be a little tight at first but eventually it will work out.
Reply:no but its going to hurt like hell, when you put it back in.
Reply:I wore braces and then a retainer after they were removed. I am supposed to sleep with the retainer on pretty much for the rest of my life. Of course I stopped wearing it about a year later and have not worn one since and my teeth have yet to go crooked in the last 15 years so I think yours will survive the next 7 days.
Reply:Trust your orthodontist; he's the one who straightened them in the first place! Generally, if you've been diligent about wearing your retainers, 7 days without it, shouldn't be a major 'deal'. You'll notice some tightness when you start to wear it again, but your orthodontist can make adjustments to it if necessary until your teeth move 'back' into the right place.

Not to worry!
